Recycling Operative
Medway Norse
£24.252,80 Per annum
40 Hours per week
Medway Norse is one of the biggest joint ventures within Norse Group, partnering with Medway Council to deliver a growing number of frontline public services to residents, such as Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Waste and Environmental management, compliance, transport, etc.
We are looking for someone to join the waste team, in order to advise and assist members of the general public to deposit waste at the recycling centre, ensuring the different types of waste are placed in the correct container or location.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist members of the public in the disposal of waste in line with the site guidelines
- Report instances where the depositing of waste appears to be unauthorised e.g. trade or excessive amount of waste
- Operate equipment to compact waste and where appropriate move waste to the correct location on site
- Separate waste to help maximise the level of recycling
- Ensure that the site and where appropriate the approaches are kept tidy and free of litter or debris
- Secure containers, which are full
- Wear the correct PPE at all time at all times, and operate equipment in a safe manner
- Report any accidents or instances where there is a “near miss”
- Report any defective equipment
- Ensure that hazardous or toxic waste is handled and stored correctly
- Deal with and report any spillages of hazardous liquids or liquids which could be hazardous to the environment, following the correct procedures for containing the spillage
- Comply with Company rules operating procedures and the Code of Conduct
- Report when containers are full or when they are likely to be full so that replacements can be delivered in a timely manner
- Complete records required on the amount of waste received and dispatched
Candidate Requirements:
- Ability to work on own initiative as an individual or as a team member (Essential)
- Capable of documenting records as required (Essential)
- Excellent communicator, both written and verbal (Essential)
- Full UK Driving Licence (Desirable)
- Availability to work between sites where required (Essential)
- Basic Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety guideline in a waste management environment (Desirable)
- Previous experience in a waste management / recycling role (Desirable)
- Experience operating waste management machinery and equipment (Desirable)
