Assistant Transport & Fleet Manager

Medway 

£39,677.26 Per annum 

37 Hours per week, No weekends 

 

Medway Norse is one of the biggest joint ventures within Norse Group, partnering with Medway Council to deliver a growing number of frontline public services to residents, such as Transport, Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, etc. 

 

The role will provide support to the Medway Norse Transport and Fleet Maintenance Manager in ensuring compliant operation of both the O licence and Non-operating Licence fleet. This position will assist in the continuous and effective control of all fleet operations. Reporting to and deputising for the Transport and Fleet Maintenance Manager. Both the manager and assistant manager will be named on the O Licence. 

 

Main Duties: 

  • To be named a Transport Manager on Medway Norse (MN) Operator Licence across two operating centres, ensuring effective and continuous control of all MN fleet operations. 
  • Ensure each service area within MN operates all vehicles, plant and equipment compliantly, in conjunction with relevant legislation and regulations. 
  • Assist ensuring all relevant records such as vehicle maintenance, defect records and Driver’s Hours records are completed and retained as per statutory requirements and are available for regular audit. 
  • Overseeing the management of MN in house fleet vehicle maintenance. 
  • Liaison and cost control with external maintenance and workshop providers. 
  • Assist with specification, tendering and procurement of vehicles, plant and equipment. 
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of business plans, quality, performance targets and performance management reports. 
  • Ensure personal compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice updates. 
  • Undertake regular gate compliance checks of both drivers and vehicles. 

Candidate Requirements: 

  • Certificate in Professional Competence in Road Haulage (National) 
  • Extensive knowledge of Operator Licencing requirements 
  • Proven management experience in a similar role managing diverse transport operations. 
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance workshops 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written confident giving instruction and direction effectively and concisely. 
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage your own workload, meeting strict deadlines under pressure. 
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, empower and provide guidance to others. 
  • Ability to work on own initiative, as an individual or as part of a team. 
  • Capable of showing flexibility in your approach to delivering work. 
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office 
  • Full clean UK Driving Licence with category B 
  • HGV Licence category C (Desirable) 
  • Automotive Engineering qualification (Desirable) 
  • Level 3 Motor Vehicle Mechanics (Desirable)
