Apprentice Civil Engineer

As such we have an excellent opportunity for an Apprentice Civil Engineer to join our highly experienced, multi-disciplined Civil Engineering team in Exeter, completing a level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship for a duration of 36 months, with further opportunities to develop at South West Norse.

Through your apprenticeship, you will receive professional mentoring to support you in the development of your career plans, maintenance of their personal and professional development and progression into more advanced roles.

As an Apprentice Graduate Civil Engineer will be responsible for supporting our multi-disciplinary consultancy with the sound delivery of local projects including Drainage and Highways design service to new and existing clients across new and existing schools within Norfolk. You will support the planning, design, building, management, maintenance or dismantling of the built environment.   

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of plans, designs and documentation to relevant codes of practice and industry standards 
  • Use and apply engineering principles and techniques, carry out calculations and data analysis, prepare and produce sketches, diagrams, and models, to support technical problem solving and in the delivery of civil engineering designs and technical solutions 
  • Use a range of tools and techniques, including digital techniques (such as CAD or BIM) to aid the visualisation, communication, measurement and assessment of civil engineering projects 
  • Contribute to the planning, design, programming, and delivery of engineering activities to agreed timescales and budgets, using quality systems and risk assessment procedures to monitor and manage projects and their risks.  
  • Assist in site inspections or surveys, report progress against project plans, or check specified technical aspects of site activities.  
  • Support the delivery of wider plans across civil engineering teams 

Our successful applicant:

  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering (603/1217/8). 
  • Hold at least 5 GCSEs at Grades A*-C / 9-4 including Maths (Grade B / 5 or 6), English and Science or their equivalent.  
  • Takes responsibility for their own professional development, seeking opportunities to enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience 
  • Is motivated when collaborating in teams, offering sensible challenge, reflects on and provides constructive feedback and contributes to discussions 
  • A Full UK Drivers Licence will be required to meet the travel requiemetns for the role.
