Tree Surgeon 

Medway 

£34,920.60

37 Hours per week

 

Medway Norse is one of the biggest joint ventures within Norse Group, partnering with Medway Council to deliver a growing number of frontline public services to residents, such as transport and cleaning.

The role would include tree surgery, from equipment maintenance and operation, tree planting to crown reductions at height, grass cutting, removal of sucker and epicormics growth, crown lifting, felling and clearing of felled and fallen trees, operating a tractor mounted flail and carrying out follow up ‘tidying’ works.

 

Main Responsibilities would include (but not be limited too):

  • Carrying out all tree work operations including complete and sectional felling, crown reductions and planting. 
  • Correctly operate top and rear handled chainsaws, correct ergonomic climbing technique and use of a harness and rope to access trees at heights often in excess of 20m. 
  • Operation of a woodchip, and maintenance of all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines. 
  • Carry out dismantling operations with rigging, friction device techniques often in confined locations in accordance with accepted industry standard. 
  • To access tree crown extremities in a stable and secure manner in accordance with the WAHR. 
  • To ensure that clothing including helmet, visor, earmuffs, trousers, boots are worn correctly and maintained by appropriate cleaning and drying, repairing were appropriate and reporting when function becomes impaired. 
  • To store associated equipment and chemicals, including lubricating oil and fuel in an appropriate manner and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, LOLER and COSHH regulations. 
  • To carry out and write up generic and site specific risk assessments and methods statements 
  • To transport waste securely from site to site, keeping in line with environmental laws and guidance.
  • Liaise and be courteous with the client and general public at all times. 
  • Engage with all requested work activities and have a willingness to adapt and adopt with new learning and changes within the arboriculture industry.
  • Drive trucks under load and tow woodchippers responsibly and safely. 
  • Use stump grinders and other machinery.

Candidate Requirements: 

  • All aspects of NPTC/Lantra including upwards of CS39 current and valid.
  • Climbing 1 years proven experience 3yrs practical experience of tree work.
  • Health & Safety Management – Ability to undertake site specific risk assessments and methods statements (RAMS).
  • Knowledge of tree species, pests & disease and visual tree assessment.
  • Knowledge of tree pruning with hand and chain saws and BS3998 (BS3998). 
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • High standard of customer service. 
  • Thorough knowledge of Traffic management and highway operation safety.
  • Current Driving Licence (3.5 tonne) & Driving licence C+C1E.
