Park Ranger - Allotments

Medway 

22.5 Hours per week 

£24,242.40 (Pro rata)

Medway Norse is one of the biggest joint ventures within Norse Group, partnering with Medway Council to deliver a growing number of frontline public services to residents, such as Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, transport, etc.

To work as a front-line officer and be a first point of contact for allotment holders, contractors and partnership officers in Medway’s Allotment areas. To ensure that they are kept in good order, carry out plot inspections and work closely with the Allotment Federation and Allotment Site Representatives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Medway’s Allotments are maintained in good order within our remit, and are safe for use
  • Provide the first point of contact with the allotment community, working to resolve health and safety concerns, cleanliness issues, by responding to customer enquiries in order to contribute to efficient and effective provision of allotments
  • Monitor the performance of contractors including the inspection of works, issuing various correspondence, ensuring that the specification and conditions are met and carried out to a high standard, reporting any problems to management
  • When the need arises, there is also requirement to work with the Urban Ranger and Grounds Teams, liaising on customer enquiries and responding where appropriate

The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied therefore the post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate to the role and as requested by his/her line manager.

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Demonstrable technical/specialist/policy & procedural knowledge which can be applied across a wide range of activities
  • Previous experience in the land based sector
  • Experience of Allotment environment and working with allotment federation groups
  • Experience of leading volunteers and friends groups
  • Experience using IT in particular Microsoft packages / working on a tablet or smart phone
  • Demonstrates the ability to deal with considerable levels of work-related pressure, for example from deadlines, interruptions or conflicting demands
