Role Purpose
Lead, manage, control, and deliver operational activity at prescribed levels of efficiency and cost to meet customer and scheduled demand for product and/or service availability, and drive business delivery performance and operational efficiency for a product range or customer.
The role is accountable for driving operational performance to meet current and future operational, quality, cost, and delivery requirements. The role requires extensive knowledge of customers and competitors, significant commercial and financial understanding, including legislative requirements and considerable experience of operational management.
Operational activity includes forecasting and planning, supply chain, material handling, production, warehousing, and delivery. The Operations Director is directly accountable for safety, quality, environment and health/welfare of employees and activities in the operational environment including compliance with all relevant statutory and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- As a member of the senior business management team, works closely with the MD and senior management team to influence and contribute to development of business.
- Work with the Operations senior leadership team to develop the operations strategy consistent with business strategy and ensure operational requirements are identified, delivered, and fully integrated into business activities.
- Provide functional leadership, direction, guidance, deployment of capability, governance, and control of the Operations function such that products and service are fit for purpose, safe and meet business, legal, regulatory and customer requirements.
- Provide team leadership of the functional management team and ensure the function has the appropriate resource and capability necessary to meet the needs of the business.
- Ensure systems are in place, maintained, monitored, and managed to ensure safe working practices and working conditions consistent with business, Group, and legislative requirements.
- Plan lead and control ongoing operational and support processes and activities to ensure delivery of operational outputs to meet customer needs and business cost, quality, and quality requirements.
- Monitor operational performance and develop performance, quality, cost, and process efficiency improvements, and put in place processes to ensure these are fully delivered.
- Ensure budgets and forecasts are in place, monitor and control expense within budget, develop and gain approval for capital expenditure plans and programmes to deliver future operational needs to meet output, quality, and cost targets consistent with business objectives and targets.
