Newport Norse has an excellent opportunity available for a Compliance Officer (Fire Doors) to join the team based in Newport, South Wales, responsible for managing contractors who undertake fire door inspections on commercial local authority properties, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
Responsible for day-to-day contract management (including raising orders, instructing and scheduling contractors, conducting audits and inspections, and verifying that all activity and outcomes meet regulatory, best practice, and company standards), the Compliance Officer (Fire Doors) also leads on the continued membership and certification of Newport Norse as a BM Trada accredited organisation. Working with external partners, suppliers, and an internal workforce of tradespeople the Compliance Officer (Fire Doors) will support internally delivered certified installations and repairs, with a view to developing this service over time.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Documentation and records – Accurately complete and maintain compliance documentation, update compliance records and systems to reflect the status of all properties.
- Works ordering – Use the Newport Norse works ordering package to schedule and distribute compliance works, manage jobs, and update actions. Process orders with contractors, verify payment requests, and undertake other administrative duties as required.
- Surveys – Conduct comprehensive inspections of fire doors and frames in commercial and residential buildings.
- Compliance – Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards. Stay informed on the latest fire door safety codes and regulations to deliver top-quality service.
- Contractor management – Collaborate with external contractors to ensure timely completion of compliance works and resulting remedial repairs, updating, and maintaining compliance systems and records.
- Reporting & budget management – Track and report activity and outcomes against key performance indicators, ensuring Compliance Manager is updated with progress. Manage budgets and spend in relation to remedial repairs.
- Customer service – Manage inquiries from stakeholders sensitively, communicating clearly to address challenges or concerns while maintaining high standards of service. Serve as the first point of contact for clients and contractors via phone, email, and in person.
- Stakeholder engagement – Engage with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate access for compliance inspections and resolve issues. Work closely with building managers, property owners, and other stakeholders to communicate inspection results and recommendations.
- Continuing professional development – Undertake training and continuing professional development to keep up to date with legislative and best practice developments affecting your area of work.
- Travel to sites daily to undertake inspections, meet with contractors, clients or partners.
Our Successful Candidate:

- Knowledge and experience of fire safety regulations and building inspections (E)
- Familiarity with fire stopping materials, products, and installation techniques. (E)
- Experience in fire door surveys, door maintenance, and door set installations / replacements. (E)
- Good working knowledge of relevant building and Health and Safety Legislation and regulations. (E)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and clients, as well as work effectively in a team. (E)
- Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied caseload across a portfolio of buildings. (E)
- Proficient in general IT packages, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) (E)
- Candidate will be required to have an enhanced DBS check carried out. (E)
- Full UK driving licence to meet travel requirements for the role. (E)
- Diploma / certification as a Fire Door Inspector, or willingness to work towards one (D)
- Experience of working with a cloud-based document portal or similar system (D)
- Experience of working with a cloud-based works ordering system or similar (D)
