Civil Engineer

£35,000 – £45,000 DoE

 

South West Norse is a specialist property and construction consultancy, providing expertise in architecture, surveying, engineering, and estates and asset management services to a range of public and private sector clients across the UK. Due to an increasing demand for Civil Engineering services, we currently have an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join our Exeter Engineering team.

 

You will join a multi-disciplined property consulting team and support the delivery of technical service to new and existing clients, primarily within the Public Sector. In this role you will work alongside industry professionals to deliver a portfolio of projects. Depending on your level of experience, the appointed person will be responsible for contributing to or leading the Engineering of projects/workstreams from conception to completion whilst also managing and maintaining client relationships.

 

Duties will include:

 

*         Carry out allocated projects within determined time frames, to budget and fee cost targets.

*         Ensure scheme design and supervision costs are kept within scales and targets are laid down in the current Business Plan.

*         Deliver civil projects in full in accordance with client briefs and professional standards.

*         Ensure adherence to agreed practice procedures, technical standards and standing orders.

*         Preparation of Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) briefs and commission necessary FRAs and carry out interpretation of FRAs.

*         Provide site investigation briefs, assess site conditions and carry out an interpretation of soil reports.

*         Carry out civil engineering surveys to identify defects, establish documentation cause and provide recommendations in the form of a report with supporting design and details.

 

The capabilities of the current team will allow us to support you at either level with continued professional development, giving you the opportunity to have local mentorship by experienced Engineers and access to industry recognised training.  As appropriate, reflecting the experience of the successful candidate, you will be offered training and support to attain industry standard professional qualifications whilst developing and taking on an increasing level of responsibility.

 

What we are looking for:

 

The level of experience you bring to the role will be flexible depending on whether you join the team as a Graduate or a Civil Engineer. For both positions, we will be looking for;

  • Formal qualification (Degree or HNC/D equivalent) in Civil Engineering
  • Civil Engineering project experience
  • Knowledge of industry best practice and professional standards
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplined team
  • Working knowledge of relevant design software (AutoCAD/Civil3d, Causeway Flow etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with the ability to pick up new systems and processes quickly
  • A current CSCS site card or prepared to obtain following appointment
