Associate Structural Engineer
Exeter
£48,000 - £60,000 (Dependents on experience)
37 Hours per week, No weekends

The Associate Structural Engineer will be responsible for the technical and commercial management of major projects as well as providing inspirational leadership for the team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Completing planned work programmes and projects to timeframes and with budget
- Managing client needs, defining project technical specifications, manage costs, fees and commercial requirement and ensure that projects are delivered to client satisfaction
- Assisting the relevant director in managing engineering resources across the Structural Engineering team
- Supporting business development activity to enhance, grow and diversify the engineering capabilities
- Managing the implementation of best practice in the Structural Engineering team
- Leading major projects ensuring that they are delivered to the specification
- Preparing designs, calculations, specifications, drawing and carrying out risk assessments for improvement, refurbishment and new building schemes, tendering documents and supervising works to completion including agreeing interim and final accounts
- Preparing schedules of dilapidations, improvement scheme, drawings and specifications, structural surveys, and insurance reinstatement schemes
- Responding to emergency requests for action or advice regarding dangerous buildings. Attending and advising on incidents
- Providing advice to clients in respect of construction and refurbishment projects and actively promote surveying services on a fee-paying basis
- Fee earning at 90%,and contributing to the achievement of business plan objective and targets
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in an Structural Engineering related discipline
- Professional membership of the Institute of Structural Engineers and be working or prepared to work towards Chartered status
- Holds a current site card or is prepared to immediately attain
- Conversant with Health and Safety legislation.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
- Knowledge and experience of Revit, and other design tools Tekla Designer/Tedds.
- Familiar with relevant construction, health and safety legislation and risks and hazards associated with asbestos
- Extensive experience in a similar or related role
- Experience in managing a team
- Experienced in the design of foundations, masonry, concrete including detailing, steel and timber structures to eurocodes
- Ideally experienced in structural investigations
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with excellent negotiation skills.
- Leadership Qualities – able to motivate and lead others in order to reach both local and organisational goals.
- Understands and applies commercial financial principles. Views issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value.
- Full UK Drivers Licence to meet travel requirements for the role
